In 2016 Aoba has started a new system for their extra curricular program (called After School Program).
From 15.30-17.00 the students are offered a set of 8 activities to encourage learning. All activities are taught by fluent English speakers who have a good knowledge of the system and philosophy of the school.

All activities are taught at different levels, for example for the soccer practice:

Tuesday: Soccer Grades 1-3
Wednesday: Soccer Grades 4-5
Thursday and Friday: Soccer Middle School

The following activities are offered for the After School Program (ASP)

  • Personal Project (follows the class lessons most closely)

Of course you do not need to sign up for 5 afternoons, you can also sign up for 2, 3 or 4 afternoons.
In the 2016-2017 school year we have 130 students participating in the ASP.

Band

A-JIS Stage Band

This musical ensemble plays music that is in the jazz, rock, or popular style.  The 2016-17 members come from a variety of instrumental backgrounds. Due to the small size of this year’s group, we custom arrange all of our performance pieces.

Performances are informally scheduled throughout the year, including Friday student assembly, Spring Carnival and the Spring Concert.

This year, the A-JIS Stage Band is a part of the After School Program (ASP) and its primary rehearsal day is Wednesday from 3:30-5:00pm.

Beginning Band

The Beginning Band is an extra-curricular music ensemble at A-JIS.  In 2016-2017, the program is open to students in the 3rd through 5th grade who have never played a band instrument before.

We offer instruction in the following instruments:  Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium, Flute, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone and Percussion.

The Beginning Band is a part of the A-JIS After School Program (ASP)  If you wish for your child to be involved, you must enroll in the ASP.  With ASP enrollment, students can also take part in activities from Monday through Friday.

Beginning Band meets on Mondays and on Tuesdays from 3:30 until 5:00. Additionally, each student takes a short one-to-one private lesson each week, which is an effective way to improve quickly.

Handbells

In this class, PYP level students can develop their basic skills as a performer in hand bell ensemble.  Rehearsal days are Wednesday and Friday from 3:30-5:00pm.  The group is a part of the After School Program (ASP).

This ensemble is directed by Mr. Nobuhito Koike.  Students will develop advanced skills in hand bell performance, and represent A-JIS in various concert engagements both on and off campus.  Due to the high degree of musicianship required, membership in this ensemble is by audition only.

Handbell Choir rehearsals are a part of the After School Program (ASP) and practice days are Monday and Tuesday from 3:30-5:00pm.
