Meet Ms. van Kan, our School’s Instrumental & Music Teacher! 20 November 2017

“I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.” –

William Ernest Henley

Originally from Baltimore, Maryland in the US, Ms Eliza van Kan have been coming to visit Japan for the last 5 years and decided to join us as instrumental and music teacher from the beginning of this school year.

Since middle school Ms van Kan loved being in the band room and didn’t want to leave it anymore. It seems that it’s never too early to make a decision if you’re made for it! Since then, she decided to dedicate her life to inspire through music. After studying Music Education at Towson University, she started to introduce the magnificent world of music to her learners.

At AJIS, her roles are always growing! During the day Ms van Kan is the general music teacher for K3 to G2. But she also teaches instrumental lessons during breaks in the day and leads the after school band rehearsals.

Where can we find her in her free time? Incorrect, not in the band room. Ms van Kan also loves to be outside and goes frequently hiking. If you are planning to climb Mt Fuji, please ask her for some advice, she has climbed it already!
