Aoba’s Biggest Donation Yet to Second Harvest Foodbank 9 November 2021

The Aoba Gardening Team has done it again!

Led by G8 teacher Emi Hisamatsu and urban farming instructor Jon Walsh and have pulled off the biggest donation of garden food ever to Second Harvest Japan food bank.

This is Aoba’s 3rd garden food donation to Second Harvest in 13 months and each one has been bigger than the last.

The school gardens were re-launched in September and contain over 30 different vegetables, herbs and flowers grown from seeds and seedlings.

A writer from Metropolis magazine, came out to learn more about how the school’s urban farming program is contributing to the community.

After carrying the food across town, the school team were given an informative tour of the food bank by CEO Charles McJilton who explained where food they receive comes from and how it is distributed, giving students a crystal clear idea of how the food they grew on campus can have a social and community impact far beyond the walls of their school.
