Evacuation Practice at Hikarigaoka 30 October 2017

Nerima-ku Emergency Evacuation Drill Practice – A-JIS helps out

Sunday 29 October 2017 – a small group of A-JIS staff (Ms Paola, Ms Rucine, Itakura san and Mr Thorn) volunteered to go through Evacuation Centre procedures to help those running the Centres understand better how to help non-Japanese speakers in emergency cases.  The group took part in role-plays of situations where different types of help were needed and centre staff found ways to help without using verbal language. The group were then given an overview of the processes, resources and conditions that would be found at a centre following a serious earthquake.

Preparations are very well thought through and resourced.  It is really good to know what we’ll can expect and also how we can help the local volunteers and the non-Japanese speakers if ever we find ourselves having to use such a centre.

Note: Every school can act as an evacuation centre.
