Meet Mrs Pasricha, Head of our Learning Support Department 16 November 2017
Originally from the U.S., Mrs Nargis Pasricha brings 20 years of teaching experience to AJIS. She has had the pleasure of working in India, UAE, the US, Singapore, Switzerland, and now Japan. Let’s discover a bit more about her!
Helping one person might not change the whole world,
But it could change the world for that one person.
Where are you from and how long have you been living in Japan?
I am from the USA and I have been living in Japan for over three years.
What did you study, why, and what did you like the most?
I have two Masters degrees. The first Master’s degree is in Child Development & Psychology and the second Master’s degree is in Special Education.
There was always a desire to do meaningful work which would allow me to make a tangible difference in the lives of people. This led me to discover working in schools where I saw my role to allow each student reach his/her potential.
My journey of educating, in so many different schools, in six countries has been amazing! And it is never the result that is satisfying–it has always been the process; the steps to see students experience success for themselves which has been the most gratifying!
How long have you been teaching or working in Education?
What are the achievements you are most proud of?
I have been teaching for over twenty years in Special Education. The achievements that I have been most proud of is in the daily work, to allow students to feel proud of themselves and feel success in their own endeavors– from preschool years to seeing High School students go off to College.
What do you like most about teaching or working in Education?
Education ultimately is about making meaningful connections and building a warm, caring community. I have tried to build this spirit in all the schools that I have worked in around the world. For me, this has been the most fantastic feeling!
What are your roles here at A-JIS?
I have worked as a Teacher in the Learning Support program.
Since August, 2017, my role is to continue teaching and also be the Head of the Learning Support Department.
What do you do for fun?
I really enjoy traveling–exploring new places, cultures and meeting new people. Watching movies is fun too! I love reading, but am particularly drawn to non-fiction material. Music is my go-to activity when I need to chill and have fun. Most of all, my idea of a good time is to gather my family and friends, cook together and spend hours in my home!
Do you have any special sayings or expressions?
Anyone who has spent time with me, knows that I have the following two sayings or expressions:
It is what it is
When you know better, you do better.
Is there something interesting about yourself you would like to share?
I have had the pleasure of living and working in six countries as a Special Education teacher (USA, Switzerland, Singapore, United arab Emirates, India and now Tokyo, Japan). My travels have made me move my home over fifteen times. Antarctica is the only continent that I have not visited–been to the other six continents.
