Aoba Teacher Receives UChicago Outstanding Educator Award 28 October 2022
It is in Aoba’s DNA to build meaningful relationships in our community across all of our campuses. Our students form deep friendships, our teachers become part of a lifelong network with their colleagues, and those teachers put in the effort and emotion to foster impactful connections with their students.
Seena Kakkat Raghavan, a Senior School science teacher at Aoba has truly championed our ‘One School, One Family’ philosophy. Her thoughtful and caring approach to educating her students has even been recognized by the University of Chicago, as she recently received the “UChicago Outstanding Educator Award”.
2022 Aoba graduate and former student of Ms Seena, Reimon, nominated her for the award after being admitted to and attending the University of Chicago this Fall.
Each year, newly admitted students at the University of Chicago have the opportunity to select educators who go beyondeveryday teaching and leave an impression that is carried over a lifetime. An Outstanding Educator thinks carefully about their instruction, shares an infectious love for learning, and cares for their students both inside and outside of the classroom.
When asked about her thoughts on winning the award Ms Seena had this to say:
“I am very happy and honored to receive this award. I am also thankful to my students and colleagues for all their support. It’s an honor to be acknowledged by my students and, as this award mentions, be able to create an impact on their lives. This gives me more energy and courage to help my students in all possible ways, in and outside of the classroom.”
Ms Seena was Reimon’s Diploma Program Chemistry teacher from 2020-2022. During which Reimon expressed that his teacher’s words inspired his interests and decisions around his future career.
We are proud to have Ms Seena as an educator at Aoba, and we are grateful for the passion she puts into her craft. Congratulations!
